Recidivism Rate by Crime

66 percent of California offenders are back in prison within three years of being arrested. Parole violators can be returned to prison even if they are never reconvicted for another crime. They may return to prison for a parole violation like missing a parole meeting or leaving the state without permission. Most people returning to prison on a parole violation only spend a few months inside, just enough time to have them reprocessed and released.
